I met Mohamed at Case Park in Kansas City, MO, which is a bit of a gathering place for sunset watchers. I'm sure it was always popular, but now with Covid and people trying to keep gatherings outside, it seems even more ideal.

I was photographing the sunset when Mohamed yelled, "You can take my picture!” So I went over to say hello, and we chatted as I photographed him in the golden light of the sunset. It was a lovely evening.

Mohamed is twenty-three and from New Hampshire, but he moved to Kansas City to be near family. He works at Dominos. "The last year has been rough, but it has also just been boring,” he told me. “If I'm not working, I'm watching TV.”

Oh my, I can relate. I told him as much, and we just looked at each other and laughed. This year has been a struggle for different people in different ways, but I think at one point or another it has been a struggle for everyone to fill the time we usually spend being out with others.

I'm so happy it is almost spring and those nice days can start breaking up the monotony. Mohamed said he's looking forward to things getting better so he can go out with friends again—without masks.
